After deciding aged 8 that they wanted to be vets, it was always joked that twin brothers Michael and Richard would one day start their own practice together. Now, 30(ish) years in the making, they have; View Referrals. Together, they combine decades of expertise in Veterinary Ophthalmology with a shared lifelong mission: providing world-class eye care for every patient.
Michael | Veterinary Ophthalmologist and co-owner
Michael graduated top of his veterinary class in 2006 and quickly established a reputation for excellence as the director of a multi award winning clinic in Central Scotland. After achieving additional qualifications in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2012, he was eager to put his growing expertise to work. His enthusiasm for the discipline, combined with a drive to elevate standards of veterinary care, led him to join a busy ophthalmic referral service in northern England, where he further refined his skills.
Inspired by the idea of returning to Scotland and creating a familyrun service dedicated to helping as many pets as possible, Michael went on to cofound View Referrals in 2025.
Outside of work, Michael loves the freedom of exploring local beaches and hillsides with his growing family and their muchloved Border Terrier, Flora.
Richard | Veterinary Ophthalmologist and co-owner
Since graduating with distinction in 2006, Richard has worked at three ophthalmic referral centres during which time he has gained his ophthalmology certificate and become an Advanced practitioner in Veterinary Ophthalmology along with one of the UK’s leading ophthalmologists.
With expert skills in complex cataract and retinal re-attachment surgery, he is one of only a handful of vets worldwide able to perform these intricate procedures and he has shared his talents, teaching many other vets. Whether he’s restoring a pet’s sight or treating sea lions, Richard is driven by clinical excellence and a genuine desire to help both people and pets.
Off-duty, he is usually found restoring his dilapidated home or hiking with his young family and Bramble, the Border Terrier.

Our surgeons are some of the most experienced in the UK at lens removal surgery. We utilise advanced phacoemulsification technology to remove cataracts and, where possible, place intraocular lenses (IOLs) to restore clear vision.
Corneal Grafting & Reconstruction
We perform intricate procedures to treat deep corneal ulcers, perforations and other corneal pathology, using techniques such as corneo-conjunctival transposition grafts.
Corrective Eyelid Surgery
Expertise in resolving painful conditions like entropion (in-turning lids), ectropion, and the removal of eyelid tumours or ectopic cilia.
Glaucoma Management
Comprehensive treatment plans including medical management and advanced surgical options to control intraocular pressure.
Cherry Eye Surgery
Surgical repositioning of the prolapsed gland of the third eyelid to maintain tear production and eye health.
Comprehensive Ophthalmic Assessments
Detailed examinations using slit-lamp biomicroscopy, tonometry (pressure testing), and chromatic Pupillary light tests to assess retinal function.
